I love this team, I love these guys!" On MSNBC.

Doris on Sunday's Meet the Press discusses income inequality in America today: "The fact that studies are showing now that people born in poverty are likely to be trapped in poverty belies the whole idea of what America was founded on: The idea that if you come here, you use your talents, you work hard, you will have a more generous life for you and your children. We have to make a national commitment again. We now have to overcome the doubt that we can change poverty. Poverty is for us one of the scourges on our system." On NBC.

Doris joined NBC's Meet the Press Sunday to reflect on the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s historic "I Have a Dream" speech and the March on Washington, which she attended in 1963. "There is a straight line from Martin Luther King backward to [Abraham] Lincoln backward to the Founding Fathers. They created an ideal of a country founded on the idea that all men were created equal. They knew all men were not created equal, we had slavery, but they knew we would force ourselves to move toward it. Lincoln moved us further through the Civil War ending slavery. Martin Luther King 100 years later got us even further to that ideal. What was so special about that march when I was a college student—I remember the day, I remember the singing, I remember the worry beforehand about whether there would be mob violence—but most of all I remember the exhilaration; a feeling that I was part of something larger than myself. We were helping to make the country a better place."

"We belong to our families, we belong to our communities, but sometimes you really realize you belong to your home towns," said Doris on Sunday's Meet the Press. "And I am so proud of what Boston did this week."

Doris regarding the Boston Marathon explosions says: "The other side of this is that it brings out the best in us even as these terrible guys bring out the worst in themselves.... Together we can undo most things that happen--if we work together." On Meet the Press on MSNBC.

After decades away, the Pulitzer-winning presidential historian has turned her sights homeward for "The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism." A long-ago field trip to Sagamore Hill might have piqued some interest too. Sunday night at 10, Goodwin talks Teddy and all the rest of it with Ray Bertolino on WHPC/90.3. Doris interviews Rebecca Miller about her new novel "Jacob's Folly" at Boston Public Library

Wednesday, March 20, 2013, 6 – 7 p.m.
Central Library in Copley Square, Rabb Lecture Hall
700 Boylston Street
Boston, MA 02116

In "Jacob’s Folly," four characters: Jacob, a Jewish peddler living in 18th-century France; Leslie and Deirdre Senzatimore, a settled American couple; and Masha, an alluring young Ultra-Orthodox Jew; find their fates intertwined when Jacob is reincarnated as a fly in contemporary Long Island. Rebecca Miller is the author of the short-story collection "Personal Velocity," her feature-film adaptation of which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, and "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee," which she also adapted for the screen.

Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin is known for her grand examinations of U.S. Presidents. Her book "No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II" won the Pulitzer Prize in History. Her most recent bestseller, "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln," was adapted into the film "Lincoln" starring Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis, Rebecca Miller's husband. Goodwin’s next book brings her back to presidents: "The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism" will be published later this year.
