Doris Kearns Goodwin on CNN Newsroom (26 October, 2016)

In case you missed it this afternoon, Doris Kearns Goodwin joined CNN Newsroom with Brooke Baldwin to talk about this unprecedented presidential election race with only 13 days remaining. Will this election cycle forever change the course of presidential campaigns in the future? “I hope it will,” says Doris. Most of us who have lived through it – while it’s been wild, crazy, and perhaps fascinating — feel like we didn’t ever really get at the critical questions about character and temperament, which is what we should have learned about these leaders a long time ago. I’m hoping, for example, that in the debates four years from now, instead of questions about ‘what are you promising?’ ‘what will you do?’ or breaking news and responding to it, they’ll ask questions (like) give us an example of a time when you made a mistake and it grew you. Tell us about an adversity that you came through. Tell us about people on your staff that can question you and they’re not feeling a backlash by doing this….” Responded Brooke: “Future debate moderators: I hope you’re taking notes.” Watch the entire segment here.
