Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream: The Most Revealing Portrait of a President and Presidential Power Ever Written

Doris Kearns Goodwin on CNN Newsroom (16 September, 2015)

Doris joined CNN Newsroom’s Brooke Baldwin in the lead up to last night’s debate, hosted by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library, and discussed President Ronald Reagan’s legacy and 94-year old Nancy Reagan's influence on the late president. “There was something about that relationship… People talk about what do First Ladies accomplish… and when I saw those love letters between the two, I had an understanding, much deeper than before, of what it meant for (President Reagan) to have her there. He said he looked around the Oval Office and if she was around the corner and he could see her through the window he felt better; when she went away, he felt sad. That’s an extraordinary bond for a political couple,” says Doris of the relationship between Nancy and Ronald Reagan. Watch the conversation here.
