Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream: The Most Revealing Portrait of a President and Presidential Power Ever Written

Doris Kearns Goodwin on MSNBC (11 January, 2017)

Doris Kearns Goodwin joined Brian Williams on his MSNBC program to talk about the legacy of two-term Democratic president Barack Obama just hours before his Farewell Address. Said Goodwin: "He conducted his presidency with a certain dignity and grace in the way he handled the tragedies of Sandy Hook and Charleston. There was no drama and the lack of scandal...the symbolism of his having become the first African American to be president. That's clear in the near term. Then you look at the long term and that becomes more complicated. That's what historians will have to figure out 50 years from now, and it will depend a lot on what happens in these next years ahead." Watch their entire conversation here.
