Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream: The Most Revealing Portrait of a President and Presidential Power Ever Written

Doris Kearns Goodwin on MTP Daily (11 January, 2017)

Today on MTP Daily, Chuck Todd asked Doris Kearns Goodwin to comment on a 2010 commencement speech by President Barack Obama at the University of Michigan, where he defended and emphasized the importance of government. “It used to be that 90 percent of the people thought government did right 90 percent of time. That’s incomprehensible today. People have to believe that government is their agent; that they’re part of a collective whole, not that it’s some foreign entity that’s doing bad things to them. Without that you’re never going to get that forward change that (Obama) believes in,” said Goodwin. Watch more of the MSNBC conversation here.
