Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream: The Most Revealing Portrait of a President and Presidential Power Ever Written

Doris Kearns Goodwin on Meet the Press on NBC (10 November 2013)

Doris joined the Meet the Press roundtable Sunday on NBC to talk about current events and her new book, The Bully Pulpit. "The man I've been just living with, Theodore Roosevelt, was in a similar position [to Gov. Chris Christie]. He was more progressive…than his party at the time and, through the force of his personality, he dragged the Republican Party to deal with the issues that were created by the Industrial Age. Similarly…to some of the traits that Chris Christie has, he was a fighter, he was blunt, he had energy, he had a sense of knowing how to address complex issues and make them very simple: 'Speak softly and carry a big stick,' special interests, The Square Deal."
