A Roller Coaster Week in History
Doris joined Morning Joe to discuss this roller coaster week in history which started with discouraging reports about Florida’s new standards for teaching about slavery that require discussing job training benefits for slaves and a two-sided look at the violence in the Tulsa massacre and ended with the uplifting three-day symposium in Washington marking the 75th anniversary of President Harry Truman’s courageous executive order desegregating the armed forces. The flow of the history shows, as Robert Kennedy said in his famous South Africa speech: “Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
