 In Uncategorized

Doris Kearns Goodwin joined Morning Joe to discuss how historically U.S. presidents have handled public satire and criticism, following ABC’s reinstatement of Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show in the wake of a national debate over free speech. “Free speech…it’s fundamental to our country, and if people can’t use humor at moments when things are tough, then we’ve lost something,” said Goodwin, as she recounted the history of humor as relates to presidents, telling stories dating back to Abraham Lincoln and including Theodore Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson, George W. Bush and others.
