Doris Kearns Goodwin on Charlie Rose (3 February, 2016)

In case you missed tonight’s Charlie Rose, discussion was centered on President Barack Obama’s first visit to a U.S. mosque and his speech there in which he condemned Islamaphobia and defended religious freedom. In speaking with NPR’s Tom Gjelten and Farhana Khera of Muslim Advocates, Charlie quoted Doris’s comments in today’s The New York Times in which she likened Obama’s warning against anti-Muslim rhetoric to warnings made by two other presidents at the end of their terms. “George Washington warned his countrymen against the increasing power of factions which kindle animosity of one against the other, while Dwight Eisenhower warned against the unwarranted influence of the military industrial complex.” Watch the clip here.
